It just took a year and 3 months (I’m in school… soooo… yeah….), a lot of scraping with a heat gun, and six cans of high heat white spray paint. The paneling was attached with nails and glue. Once removed, we discovered a huge crack from the ceiling to the fireplace with huge chunks of glue clinging to life on the wall and bricks. Fast forward a year. A friend of mine snuck into my house for my birthday and had the drywall replaced & painted. Huzzah!
Three months later: Since I am on fall break from school, I was determined to finish the fireplace makeover. I still have a ton of coursework to do, but the fireplace is done. Ta Dah!
